Girlguiding started in 1910 when a few girls arrived at a Rally in 1907 being held at the Crystal Palace for boys.  The boys had been reading papers written by Lord Baden Powell and finding them exciting, formed small groups.  In an era when girls were seen and not heard, and certainly did not run anywhere, they were the forerunners of today’s adventurous youngsters.
Modern guiding aims to help girls and young women gain the confidence, skills and experiences necessary to broaden their horizons and reach for new goals.  It encourages leadership and management, assuming responsibility and team building, caring for others and taking the initiative – skills which our members can take into the rest of their lives. Girlguiding is a female only organisation, in fact  the largest female organisation in Britain.  It continues to evolve, and has regularly upgraded its programme and look.

In Hampshire East we are proud of our members.  We have a strong leadership team, who together with all of our Guiders and helpers give of their time to allow girls the space to grow into citizens of the future.
